We’ve found a new favorite ice cream brand! This summer we sampled the pots of Vice Cream, now a hit in more than 270 Safeway grocery stores across the Bay Area. The Boston-based product gets our thumbs up for decadent flavors such as Higher Grounds, Toffee Wife and Afternoon Delight priced at $6 a pint.
But here’s the back story. In 2014 at a food industry show, founder Dan Schorr saw no innovation in the super-premium ice cream sector. Dan had a vision to create a new, decadent ice cream that would appeal to the young and young at heart. A few weeks later, Schorr, was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer and told he had 12 weeks to live without medical intervention. That’s when he decided he would not just live his life, he would indulge in it. Dan successfully went through treatment, and as of August 2016 has been fortunate to say he’s cancer free.
Schorr, whose message of “Life’s Short, #EFIC—Eat Freaking Ice Cream” embraces humor and indulgence as company core values. A portion of proceeds goes to cancer institutes across the country.
