Yee Ha, Not Pee U: Skunk Train Season Begins April 6th
Fort Bragg, CA-Opening Day for the Skunk Train is Friday April 6, and beginning that day, trains operate from Fort Braggdaily with over 350 trips scheduled through the fall. The ever popular 3.5-hour Northspur train ride departs at 10 a.m. Passengers aboard the train will crisscross the Noyo River traveling over numerous bridges, roll past towering redwoods trees and arrive at Northspur that is 21 miles deep in the mountains. After a 40-minute visit to this remote camp, guests will then ride back to Fort Bragg. Adults $45, children $20 (ages 3 to 11).
In addition to the daily morning Northspur trip, the Skunk Train will again travel the same route in afternoon for the Northspur Barbecue operating five days a week during the summer (Tuesdays through Saturdays). These 4.5-hour trips depart at 3:30pm and feature an extra hour at Northspur to enjoy a delicious barbecue dinner. Adults $65, children $35.Saturdays feature a special Salmon BBQ for an extra $5.
The Skunk Train hosts numerous special events throughout the year. On Saturday, April 28th, the Wine & Redwoods trip offers a train ride, wine tasting and light appetizer at Northspur for $55. There is also something for beer lovers on Saturday, May 19th with the Spring Fling Beer Fest for $75 with live music, beer & barbecue.
Summer features the return of Outlaws & Hookers and on June 9th that is a fun return to the early 1900s. This fundraiser is for the Kelley House Museum and features a colorful, sometimes risqué, history of the train, logging, bars, and brothels of the early 1900's on the Mendocino Coast.The $70 ticket includes a barbecue dinner.
On the second Sunday of June, July and August, the summer series of "Music in the Redwoods" returns.T he $70 tickets include the train ride, barbecue, and live performance.Performers are to be announced.
In the fall, the Oktoberfest Beer Train departs Fort Bragg and features a train ride, barbecue and beer tasting for $70. Also in October will be the annual Pumpkin Trips where you can pick out your own pumpkin from the train’s own pumpkin patch.
And finally, the year ends with the third annual Christmas Trains.
In addition to Fort Bragg, the Skunk Train also offers trips in Willits, however we have not yet announced when Willits trains will begin operating until we know when station renovations will be completed.
