Fall 2010

Pumpkins, Turkeys anchor upcoming holiday season

Where did the summer go? I ask that every year. And this time, before I knew it, it was too late to plant those heirloom pumpkin seeds I was hoping to get to in July. So here we are-fall. Home pumpkin patches everywhere are bumping out crops, and avid pumpkin growers are readying their bounty for the Great Pumpkin Festival held annually in Half Moon Bay.

This year, it will run on the weekend of Oct. 16-17 and feature hundreds of artists, food booths, and more. Click on our calendar page to find out the details. Take my advice, book a room for the weekend or get there extra early to avoid heavy traffic.

Pumpkins means pumpkin pie means something dessertlike means tea to go with it. If you are an avid tea taster like I am, you will scout out every avenue to try afternoon tea. So, I have to rave about a new place I found called the English Rose in Pleasanton. As you see on the picture on the left, I went there recently to enjoy a spot of tea with my friend, Annie, from Los Angeles. It was her favorite thing to do while she was up here. And guess what? She met a friend "accidentally" while we were in the tea room together. See my review here on East Bay: Time for Tea.

Yes, time for parents to relax a bit now that the kiddos are in school. As my son Aaron is now a senior, I am looking forward to spending more time with him before he begins college, and I am already thinking of a great family vacation that will bond us all together before he departs next year. It all goes so quickly, and that’s the truth.

Travel Tip – One great way to ensure safety and convenience in all your family travels is to invest in a vacation club membership. While most clubs require you to buy timeshare property in order to join, once you're an owner you'll never have to pay for accommodations again, and you can travel to a different destination every year. Vacation club resorts also offer increased security, supervised children's activities, and plenty of perks to keep adults busy as well.
