The life of journaling isn’t just for journalists anymore. At the recent San Francisco International Gift Show, more blank books for scribblers popped up everywhere, and the variations of colors, features, and sizes ran the gamut. Here’s what we found:

Zuzu Imports: A palm-sized, micro journal and other sizes come direct from India. Using a band clasp and a button to secure closure,the Indian silk fabric covers are eye-popping and beautiful. The pages are made of handmade paper. See to find a retailer.

Tigo Enterprises Inc.: Something about suede is simply timeless. Everyone loves its smooth, comfortable, down-home feel. And its not just brown anymore! The folks at Tigo Enterprises, Toronto, Ontario in Canada offer a series of suede journals as well as sketch books filled with a set of color pencils, each with its own pocket. Practical, lovely, and travel worthy! Journals come in magenta, pumpkin, and lime colors as well as traditional deerskin brown. The company also sells portable games, packaged in suede as well. Kikkerland Design Inc.: It’s legendary Moleskine journals were used by Hemingway, Picasso, and Chatwin. The Moleskine notebook line is pure and simple. Made of a thin leather cover, typically black, with an elastic black band to keep the book closed, the early versions with smooth rounded corners were designed to be small enough to slip into a man’s breast pocket. It features ruled pages, acide free paper, and an expandable inner poekct for stamps and postcards. It also in plain paper,sketch paper and with grid paper versions.
