Review: Half Moon Bay Lodge
By Kathy Chin Leong

For under $200 and even under $150 per night if you are lucky, you can enjoy the most beautiful Best Western property here in Half Moon Bay. The Spanish-style Half Moon Bay Lodge is perfect for an affordable, yet comfortable and fun getaway for local families.

During my recent stay in April, the place was immaculate with friendly staff, roomy suites, and a great extended continental buffet breakfast with our favorite – make-your-own waffles. I was impressed with its attention to floral and plant detail because the foliage gave it that extra star boost not usually found at motels.

In addition, the property features many extras including refrigerators in the rooms and some microwaves, a pool, a whirlpool, a fitness center, sauna and a relaxing outdoor fireplace. Each room, complete with a deck or terrace overlooks the Half Moon Bay Golf Links.

The property is less than a mile away from the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and is nestled along a necklace of beaches, ideal for picnicking, jogging, tide pooling with kids or bicycling. It is also close to major grocery stores and restaurants, and the trendy downtown shopping area.

Right now, the hotel is currently offering several special packages:
"Dinner and a Movie" includes a one-night stay, a $75 gift certificate to the Moss Beach Distillery restaurant; a complimentary in-room movie, and a complimentary breakfast buffet.

"Family Fun Picnic Package" includes a one night stay, a beach blanket, sparkling cider, a selection of gourmet treats, a complimentary parking pass to Martin's Beach and a complimentary breakfast buffet.

"Romantic Escape" includes a one-night stay, champagne, gourmet chocolate, a romantic gift basket, and complimentary late checkout.

"Stay and Play Golf Package" includes a one night stay, golfing for two at Half Moon Bay Golf Links with a choice of two 18-hole championship golf courses and complimentary golf cart usage.
